LOCAL AREA

The Homestead is ideally located near numerous restaurants, grocery stores and large retail shopping centers. Yet, the privacy and quiet found here are sure to provide an escape from the everyday. Life here is close to convenience, yet worlds away.

Residents of The Homestead at Mills River enjoy numerous recreational activities both within, and just outside of our community gates. Flyfishing is just outside your back door in the Mills River, or the Davidson River. Hiking can be found in the Pisgah National Forest and floating down the French Broad River can be a mighty adventure.

For a day of modest adventure, our residents enjoy some of our local culture. Homestead at Mills River is centrally located between the three most publicized cities in Western North Carolina:

ASHEVILLE (6 miles from Asheville Airport)
In 2007, Asheville was named one of the top seven places to live in the U.S. by Frommer's Cities Ranked and Rated, and #23 of 200 metro areas for business and careers by Forbes. It was also named one of the world's top 12 must-see destinations for 2007 by Frommer's travel guides.

Asheville and the surrounding mountains are also popular in the autumn when fall foliage peaks in October. The scenic Blue Ridge Parkway runs through the Asheville area and near the Biltmore Estate.

HENDERSONVILLE (10 miles)
Hendersonville is traditionally known as "The City of Four Seasons". Recently, Hendersonville was proclaimed to be "Friendliest City in America". The town has a well-preserved Main Street and adjoining downtown areas with many restaurants, antique shops and boutiques. Much downtown revitalization has occurred since the early 1990s.

The largest street festival of the Hendersonville calendar is the annual Apple Festival, culminating in the Apple Parade that regularly draws up to 50,000 spectators. Main Street Hendersonville is also home to a number of other festivals and special activities throughout the year.

BREVARD (9 miles)
Brevard is located at the entrance to Pisgah National Forest and has become a noted tourism and recreation center in Western North Carolina. Brevard is the home of Brevard College, a four-year liberal arts institution with nationally-recognized programs in music and environmental studies. The town also is home to Brevard Music Center, one of the nation's preeminent summer music teaching and performance institutions.

The city is nicknamed "The Land of Waterfalls" due to the many waterfalls in the area, including Looking Glass Falls, Connestee Falls, and Sliding Rock.
